Here Khalid Abdel-Hadi discusses the challenges of using online platforms for freedom of expression and for creating awareness about the social issues young people face today in the Middle East. He sees the platform he created, My.Kali, as filling a significant gap—reflecting alternative communities that already exist but who are underrepresented in mainstream media outlets.
Khalid Abdel-Hadi is the founder of Jordan-based online magazine, My.Kali, founded in 2007. My.Kali’s mission is to present “issues related to women’s rights, personal politics, gender related matters, freedom of speech, alt-communities, and new media” by providing a space where minorities can find solidarity and “a safe atmosphere of reassurance and certainty in the midst of regional turmoil”.
