In this interview Leila Abdelrazzaq discusses how her work in zines and graphic novels is informed and shaped by her work in community organization and activism. She addresses the significance of imagining new borders and making a record of past memories, particularly for people who have experienced occupation.

 

Leila Abdelrazzaq is a Detroit-based Palestinian author and artist. Her debut graphic novel Baddawi (Just World Books, 2015) was shortlisted for the 2015 Palestine Book Awards, and has been translated into three languages. She is also the author and illustrator of The Opening (Tosh Fesh, 2017), a number of zines and short comics, and the founder of Bigmouth Press & Comix. She has been involved in activism in various capacities since 2011, integrating art making into this work.
