Interview with Yasmine Younes

In this interview Yasmine Younes explores the impact of comics and cartoons as a vehicle for protest in the Middle East and North Africa. Her research considers how comics and caricatures were used strategically by artists in the past to provoke discussion and debate in their communities, and whose voices were and are currently underrepresented from/in the region.
Yasmine Younes is the Special Collections and Cataloguing Assistant, in the Archives and Special Collections division, of the American University of Beirut library, and was the co-curator of the exhibition Comics: A Serious Matter! in 2014. She received her Master’s in Library Science with Mention from the Lebanese University for the thesis Comics Art in Lebanon: Production, Preservation and Documentation.
