This animation is an introduction to print. Print media devices such as caricature and satire have roots in theater and puppetry. Although much wider in reach, access to print media—both for creator and audience—has nonetheless been influenced by literacy and class. Visual devices such as cartoons and caricatures allow for communication beyond language, becoming a new form of protest, and remains a significant creative tool used to drive change.

This and other animation included in the exhibition From Visionaries to Vloggers (spring 2020) were commissioned by the museum to introduce different media platforms and issues discussed in the exhibition. The museum worked with animation company Cognitive to create short and informative explanations of the platforms, from which further exploration of the accompanying displayed historical material and interviews could flow.
