Omar Al-Ghazzi discusses the depiction of the Ottoman Empire and occupation in television drama and cultural production.  He explores the background of stories about the Ottoman Empire through dramas, recent political aspects related to the exploration of this subject in Turkish and Arab world dramas, and responses within different countries to these dramas and their perceived political aims.

Omar Al-Ghazzi is an assistant professor with the London School of Economics’ department of media and communications. He works on the geopolitics of global communications, particularly in relation to news media and popular culture, and the political contestation of narratives around digital technologies, with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. He has published in journals including Communication Theory, Media, Culture and Society, and the International Journal of Communication. He is an editor in the Middle East Journal of Culture and Communication.
