Northwestern University in Qatar’s Media Majlis Museum, in partnership with ACMI, opens ‘All That Is Unseen’ by Marshmallow Laser Feast

Media Majlis Museum and ACMI open ‘All That Is Unseen’ by Marshmallow Laser Feast, the collective’s first major exhibition in Qatar, on view until January 21, 2027.

Today, the Media Majlis Museum at Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q), in partnership with ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, unveils its fall 2026 exhibition “All That Is Unseen,” featuring the work of internationally acclaimed London-based artist collective Marshmallow Laser Feast (MLF).

MLF is an experiential artist collective using deep research, collaboration with experts and technology to make the invisible perceptible. Spanning large-scale installation, film and live performance, MLF’s practice is united by a single purpose: to deepen our understanding of the living world and our place within it.

“At Northwestern University in Qatar, we believe that media, art, and cultural dialogue are powerful tools for understanding ourselves and the world around us. Ambitious, dynamic, and growth orientated, ‘All That Is Unseen’ embodies the approach our university was founded to nurture, bringing together creativity, technology, and inquiry in ways that invite deep reflection on the human experience,” said Marwan M. Kraidy, dean and CEO of Northwestern University in Qatar.

Curated by ACMI in collaboration with MLF, “All That Is Unseen” brings together artworks created in collaboration with an extraordinary network of artists, filmmakers, musicians, and scientists, including filmmaker Terrence Malick, the late producer Edward R. Pressman, Cate Blanchett, Daisy Lafarge, Jon Hopkins, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Meredith Monk, Howard Skempton, and Jonny Greenwood.

“ACMI is excited to have our survey exhibition of Marshmallow Laser Feast come to Qatar, presented at Media Majlis Museum at Northwestern University in Qatar. This exhibition had a transformational impact in Melbourne and most recently in New Zealand, and we hope the exhibition excites Qatari audiences in similar ways,” said Seb Chan, director and CEO of ACMI.

The exhibition has been thoughtfully reimagined for its presentation at the Media Majlis Museum, with its audience journey and context re-adapted. Bringing the exhibition to Doha — and the wider conversations that underpin it to new audiences — reflects the Media Majlis Museum’s ongoing commitment to sharing world-class cultural experiences with audiences in Qatar and the wider region.

Alfredo Cramerotti, director of Media Majlis Museum, added: “We are proud to welcome Marshmallow Laser Feast and ACMI to the Media Majlis Museum and to offer audiences in Doha an opportunity to engage with a series of impactful works that expand how we see, feel, and imagine our relationship with the living world. Through collaborations such as this, we continue to foster dialogue across cultures, disciplines, and geographies, reaffirming our commitment to evidence-based storytelling and meaningful public engagement.”

The exhibition unfolds over ten key areas, comprising major video works on a grand, awe-inspiring scale, guided meditation, and evocative works on paper. Visitors evolve from droplets of water to human cells and black holes, gaining a deeper understanding of the natural world and our place within it. Visitors can begin their journey with “Works of Nature” and breath, highlighting breath as an eternal cycle of reciprocity, and explore the process and practice of MLF in the “Science Behind the Sublime,” revealing the stories and technologies behind these incredible artworks. Journey through space to the edge of a black hole in “Distortions in Spacetime,” an immersive and interactive experience exploring the link between black holes, dying stars, and the human body.

In addition, visitors can take part in a collective meditation, guided by the voice of Academy Award-winning actor Cate Blanchett, with a score by Jon Hopkins. Step into “Evolver: The Journey of Breath,” a large-scale immersive installation that follows the path of oxygen as it travels throughout the lungs and heart, or lie back and look up — following the path of oxygen as it is processed within cells, to become carbon dioxide in “Evolver: The Breathing Cell.” Experience “Evolver” in its original VR format and explore “The Tides Within Us,” large-scale still images revealing the rhythms of oxygen flowing through the branching ecosystem of the human body. Conclude your journey in “We Live in an Ocean of Air,” reconnecting us back to breath, the invisible connection between plants and people, and the wondrous rhythm that underpins life on Earth.

“All That Is Unseen” is an ACMI touring exhibition and marks both ACMI and MLF’s first major exhibition in Qatar and the wider region. It comes to Doha from the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.

MLF’s Ersin Han Ersin said, “We are thrilled to present ‘All That Is Unseen’ at the Media Majlis Museum. This exhibition is a celebration of life, and explores our continued fascination with what sits just beyond the reach of our senses. Created through collaborations with scientists, researchers, and technologists, these artworks draw on everything from scanning trees in the Amazon and listening in on black holes to mapping the human body in microscopic detail. Together, they invite audiences to experience the invisible systems that connect us to one another, to the natural world, and to the wider universe. In bringing this work to Qatar for its first presentation in the region, we hope audiences feel these connections too.”

“All That Is Unseen” is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday until January 21, 2027. The exhibition is free to attend and open to the public at Northwestern Qatar’s campus in Education City, Doha.

About Marshmallow Laser Feast

Marshmallow Laser Feast [Ersin Han Ersin (b. 1984), Barnaby Steel (b. 1978), and Robin McNicholas (b. 1979)] is a London-based artist collective whose work investigates the entanglements of human perception and the more-than-human world. Working across immersive installation, extended reality (XR), film, and performance, they construct multisensory environments and artworks in which data becomes sensorial, ecological systems become intimate, and the invisible processes that sustain life are made perceptible. Grounded in transdisciplinary research and sustained dialogue with experts — ecologists, neuroscientists, and philosophers — their works unfold as affective spaces where imagination and information collide, and sensorial experience becomes a mode of inquiry. Their work has been presented internationally in major cultural institutions and festivals including ACMI (2022), ArtScience Museum (2022), Barbican Centre (2022), Espacio Fundación Telefónica (2025), Factory International (2024), Museum of the Future (permanent), Phi Centre (2022), Royal Botanical Gardens, Kew (2025), Saatchi Gallery (2018), Sundance Film Festival (2019) and Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2025).
