Within today's social media landscape, we are inundated with gossip, rumors, and fabrications. Images, videos, music, and memes blur the line between fact and fiction, prioritizing authenticity over accuracy to orchestrate our emotions. Film is a particularly powerful and enduring medium. Providing a rich commentary on religion, values, politics, and conflict, films shape our understanding of the world, both real and imagined. Beyond interpreting lived experiences and real-life situations, they employ metaphors, humor, and fictional narratives to reveal hidden truths and critique society. This video brings together imagined landscapes and depicted locations. With such fundamental challenges to our contemporary perceptions of authenticity, identity and the essence of storytelling, can you tell what is real? And, perhaps more pressingly, can journalists?
Commissioned for the Ai or NAY? Artificial vs. Intelligent exhibition at the Media Majlis Museum at Northwestern University in Qatar. This production was developed in collaboration with Superposition, an interactive experience and design studio based in Arnhem, Netherlands.
