From Visionaries to Vloggers: Media Revolutions in the Middle East

Spring 2020
Exhibition

From Visionaries to Vloggers explores the transformative power and potential of creative media.

Drawing from across the Arab world this exhibition invites you to engage with a number of issues which over time have both altered media and adapted to media—all with the vision of creating change.

Where the backdrop for discussion and debate is as rich as the Middle East—an arena where borders and boundaries, identities and representations remain in flux—and where media has for generations shaped societies, From Visionaries to Vloggers presents a diverse range of voices demanding to be heard.

From the birth of Arab feminism through theatre, journalism and literature, to how the internet is shaping activism—and vice versa—and how television series have impacted cultural identities, From Visionaries to Vloggers explores how visionaries from the Middle East have used media as a revolutionary tool for social change.
